a5c7b9f00b In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an accountant with no superpowers comes to realize his city is owned by a super villain. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero. So there are a lot of superhero stories out there. We subscribe to Netflixwell, so the fact that we are gearing up to the Defenders leaves a big hole to fill in the meantime. This show totally filled that void just in the first episode alone.

With only 29 or so minutes, I found that it wasn't too long and not too short. I loved every second of it and I cannot wait to see the rest. PUT THEM ALL out now!! I love The Tick and having looked forward to this new live version for what seems like ages - and now having watched the first half of season one - I unfortunately have to say that it doesn't deliver. Not for me anyway.

Disclaimer: I've never read the comic. But I have watched the animated series multiple times - and likewise with the live version from 2001. I just love the writing and that zany humor, but Amazon's 2017 just doesn't have that.

What we get here is a strange hybrid show that wants to be funny but at the same time also wants to be realistic and gritty. That just DOESN'T work. Here, instead of The Tick being the main character we get the neurotic mess that is Arthura main character, instead. Hey, Arthur was always like that … but he was also always the sidekick. Now it's like The Tick is the sidekick … and is just not very funny compared to the earlier incarnations of the show.

All respect to Peter Serafinowicz, whom I likean actor, but in this case seems like a pale wannabe, a sad reminder that he cannot fill the shoes of Patrick Warburton, who was born to play the role. Alright, so the 2017 show does have considerably higher production values than the Patrick Warburton show had - that's very apparent … but at least the 2001 show was funny. And this 2017 show just isn't. Not enough anyway.

I really hope they drop some of the realism and turn up the humor in the second half of the season. But if not, then it's time for a reboot … again.

Spoooon.
